New SQL Server Technologies and Their Impact on DBAs
-- Speaker: Andrew Brust

SQL Server 2008 R2 is here.  So is SQL Server Parallel Data Warehouse Edition (PDW).  There’s SQL Azure in the cloud.  And the next version of SQL Server, code-named “Denali” is already in CTP.  Together these releases bring important new technologies to the Microsoft database world and, for the first time in a while, the new tech is major enough to change how DBAs work.  Whether it’s the Fast Track data warehouse reference architectures for R2, the Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) technology in PDW, the soon-to-come “Federation” sharding features in SQL Azure, or the VertiPaq columnar technology in PowerPivot and Denali, DBAs have fundamentally new products -- and architectures --  to deal with.  In this session, Microsoft technology strategist, columnist and blogger Andrew Brust will introduce you to these new technologies, how they work, their role in the market and their potential role in your career.
